Introducing Ronan Patrick McCall

We are all happy to announce the birth of our second son,
Ronan Patrick McCall
8 lbs., 14 oz
21 inches

He was born only 2 hours after we officially landed in the labor and delivery room. The birth story does deserve to be told, but we can do that in another post. Let's just say that after pushing Connor out for over 4 hours, I was thrilled to push Ronan for only 20 minutes. :))

The hospital has a policy that besides the mother, only one other person is allowed in the birthing room. It wasn't long before I realized that I didn't have the camera. In our rush to get out the door, we forgot not only the camera, but also money (needed for extra time in the parking meters outside the downtown hospital). And if I didn't have the camera, then we wouldn't have any pictures right after the birth!

Alan's brother David was kind enough to drop it by. So in between contractions, Alan went down to the lobby, picked up the camera and the money, fed the meters, and on we went. Now we didn't have to worry about missing the moment photo-wise, or having a meter maid put a clamp on our car (which they do quite often).

Ahhh, now I could relax. We had the camera. Child number two wouldn't be short-changed when it came to his first scrapbook. :)

Of course, then it was up to us to take all the pics we wanted. You'll notice that one of them is using Alan's extended arm as our tripod. We have a whole series of those. But we would have missed out entirely on Ronan's first hours if David hadn't brought by the camera. Thank you, David!

Shortly after 4:13pm on April 28, 2011
(Ireland time)

Team Baby--Dr. Sam Coulter Smith and Midwife/Nurse Katarina.
They were absolutely fabulous!!!!

What's the first thing they do with the mom after she gives birth? Serve her a cup of tea with toast, of course! (I think it was the best cuppa I've ever had!)

A modest pic of baby's first feed.

We dedicate this tango picture to all our friends in Buenos Aires.
(Alan once told them that the bliss he feels in a tango embrace is akin to holding your newborn in your arms for the very first time.)
We hope you are all well, and Paola, that your little one arrives safe and sound very soon!
